The rally took place Wednesday evening at the Discovery Center in Clayton County, just south of Atlanta. An estimated 3,500 to 4,000 people attended the event, which also featured appearances from other Georgia Democrats, including Sen. Raphael Warnock.
Obama used part of his speech to revisit his recent comments about President Donald Trump’s White House renovations. Over the weekend, he compared the building’s new appearance to what it might look like if Saddam Hussein opened a Cheesecake Factory. The joke prompted several responses from Trump and members of his administration.
Rather than backing away from the comment, Obama made another joke about how much attention it received.
“These are not serious people,” Obama told the crowd, referring to Trump and Republicans. “And we’re all paying the price for their lack of seriousness.”
He also questioned why the administration appeared to devote so much attention to defending the restaurant joke instead of addressing economic concerns.
“They mobilized a whole-of-government response to that joke – not to inflation, but to that joke,” Obama said.

Obama pointed to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s recent appearance outside a Cheesecake Factory, suggesting that the administration had gone out of its way to respond to his remarks. He also pushed back against criticism that referencing the restaurant was an attempt to look down on everyday Americans.
As a father of two daughters, Obama joked that he could not have made it through their childhood without visiting the popular restaurant.
The former president then shifted the conversation to affordability and what he described as corruption within the current administration. He accused Trump of using the presidency to benefit himself financially, telling the crowd, “We have never seen a president so intent on selling favors.”

Ossoff also addressed the crowd, criticizing Trump’s administration and bringing up the construction of a new White House ballroom. He suggested that Democrats could pursue accountability if they regain control of Congress.

Bottoms, who is running for governor, focused on her Republican opponent, billionaire healthcare executive Rick Jackson. She described Jackson and Trump as wealthy figures who benefit financially while ordinary taxpayers carry the burden.
Warnock raised concerns about cuts to Medicaid and SNAP nutrition assistance, framing the election as a question of the country’s values and responsibility to one another.
Obama’s Georgia appearance was part of a broader campaign effort to help Democrats ahead of the election, while Trump continued holding rallies across the country.
