The trailer for her upcoming Roku movie, Second Chance Holiday, has sparked an online debate, with some NBA fans questioning why she would take on a romantic storyline while married to Steph Curry.
The film follows a woman whose love life has not gone as planned. After returning to her hometown, she reconnects with her high school sweetheart and gets another chance at love.

When the trailer was released on Oct. 27, Steph quickly showed his support for his wife. The Golden State Warriors star shared the preview on social media and praised the work she has put into the project.
“My Leading Lady. I get to see the work behind the scenes, and now the world gets to see you shine, and this is just the beginning,” he wrote.
But his excitement was not shared by everyone. Some viewers took issue with the movie’s plot, arguing that the storyline was disrespectful to Steph and somehow reflected poorly on their marriage.
One TikTok user questioned why Ayesha would play a character who dates different people before finding love with someone from her past, especially while married to a successful athlete like Steph. Others suggested that she was seeking attention from other men, with some even making insulting comments about the couple’s relationship.

On X, another user questioned Ayesha’s decision to star in a movie centered on leaving one relationship for another. The criticism quickly turned personal, with some commenters bringing Steph into the conversation and making jokes about his marriage.
However, plenty of people were not buying the backlash. Supporters pointed out that Ayesha is an actress and should not have to limit the roles she accepts because she is married. They also questioned why Steph publicly supporting his wife’s career had become an issue in the first place.
One user wrote, “Men really jumping Ayesha for doing a movie, dating an athlete sounds like hell.”
Another reminded critics, “Ayesha Curry is an actress, get that through your head.”

One TikTok creator even encouraged women to watch the movie when it arrives on Roku on Nov. 5, turning the criticism into a reason to support Ayesha.
For now, Steph has made his feelings clear by celebrating his wife’s work. And while social media continues to debate the movie’s storyline, Ayesha is getting the chance to do what she set out to do: act.
