Tina Knowles is embracing life with a fresh perspective, a new man, and the confidence of a woman who’s learned some powerful lessons. Nearly two years after her divorce from actor Richard Lawson, the 71-year-old matriarch is back in the dating scene and she’s doing it on her own terms.

In a recent conversation, the author and fashion designer revealed she’s currently spending time with someone new. “I am spending time with a friend,” she shared modestly, adding with a smile, “He’s a very nice gentleman. We’ll see what happens.”
The new relationship comes after her quiet but intentional split from Lawson, whom she married in 2015. Tina, who also recently released her memoir Matriarch, reflected on the breakup in the book, admitting that while the decision was difficult, it was made without bitterness. “Love is patient, love is kind,” she wrote. “Love is also not a competition or mired in jealousy. I made the decision to divorce with a heavy heart but totally without malice, and I have not lost a night of sleep over it.”

That clarity and peace are a far cry from her first marriage to Mathew Knowles, the father of her daughters Beyoncé and Solange. In Matriarch, Tina finally opens up about the years of infidelity that clouded their 31-year marriage. She describes the exhausting cycle: he would cheat, apologize, promise to change and she’d stay. “But this is what married people did, I told myself,” she recalled.

The couple divorced in 2011, and while that breakup was emotionally draining, Tina says her split from Lawson was different. When asked what made it easier the second time around, she credits age, experience, and a stronger sense of self.

Now, she’s all about living in the moment and enjoying what life brings. “Just getting all dressed up and done up, makeup, hair, putting on something that fits well, it’s fun looking sexy. It makes me feel sexy,” she said with a laugh.
And more importantly, Tina is focusing on joy, growth, and self-love. “I’m making the best of every day that I have left in this life,” she said proudly.
