On January 14, the rapper took to X (formerly Twitter) to express concern about the fires and pray for relief. “Make it monsoon in LA,” she wrote, urging divine intervention to bring rain. While her intention was clear, the use of the word “monsoon” drew criticism, with many pointing out that such extreme weather could worsen the situation by causing flash floods, mudslides, and further devastation in already vulnerable areas.

Lil’ Kim responded to the backlash by defending her choice of words and clarifying her stance. “What’s happening is devastating, and what LA really needs right now is rain—so what’s the issue?” she asked in a follow-up post. She also shared a screenshot of a monsoon’s definition, highlighting that it involves a “seasonal shift in wind direction that can cause extreme wet or dry weather.” Despite the criticism, she emphasized her focus on staying positive and supporting those affected.
Some fans rallied behind her, praising her intent and dismissing the backlash. One supporter commented, “Sis, your heart was in the right place—ignore the haters.” However, others remained unconvinced, warning that heavy rains could lead to additional disasters. “A monsoon is a natural disaster, babe,” one person wrote. “Rain like that would produce flash floods, mudslides, and erosion in fire-damaged areas.”
As of January 16, the fires have left at least 25 people dead, destroyed over 12,000 structures, and scorched more than 60 square miles, according to CBS. Hundreds of thousands of residents have been forced to evacuate, with many still under evacuation orders as fires like the Palisades and Eaton wildfires continue to rage.
